veganuary… what’s it all about?

veganuary… what’s it all about?

January is traditionally a time for resolutions, and many people are now choosing to go vegan for the month.

Veganuary as a movement was founded by Jane Land and Matthew Glover in January 2014 with the aim of encouraging people to try out a vegan lifestyle for the month of January. The idea is that by giving it a try for just one month, we’re more likely to stick with it (and hopefully carry on) rather than making a long-term commitment from the start which can be intimidating!

There are many reasons why people choose to go vegan, here’s three of the most common reasons people do Veganuary…

Health Benefits – a plant-based diet has been shown to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as reduce the risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Environmental Concerns – animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of greenhouse gas emissions, so by reducing your consumption of animal products, you can help reduce your carbon footprint.

Animal Welfare – for many people it’s all about the animals and going vegan is a way to stand up for animal rights. There’s no way round it, animals do suffer when they’re bred for our supper.

Whether you’re in it for your health, the environment, or the animals, there are plenty of good reasons to give veganism a try… who knows, you might even decide to stick with it long-term!

With movements like Veganuary, Meat Free Monday, and inspiration from so many chefs, plus the supermarkets and other stores making it easy to get your paws on delicious vegan products… it’s not as hardcore a choice as it once was.

Plus we are always here to help with your sweet treats, lush vegan and palm oil free chocolate syrups and spreads and heavenly syrups for drizzling over puds, whipping up scrumptious plant-milk lattes and hot chocs… just hop over to our recipe page for oodles of delicious easy to make options.

Happy Veganuary and beyond!
