What do I do if my allergy / intolerance is not mentioned above?
Please drop us an email on admin@sweetfreedom.co.uk so we can immediately look into it for you.
Are all Sweet Freedom products vegan?
Yes, all our products are registered with the Vegan Society.
Are your products a good choice for diabetics?
All our products are sweetened only with fruit and contain only the naturally occurring sugars in the fruits used; apples, carob and (in our Fruit Syrup) grapes. The combination of these means these natural sweeteners have less of an effect on blood sugar levels than table sugar. We have many customers with diabetes who use our products successfully – see reviews. Deborah's (one of the founders) husband has diabetes. We do advise that you consume sparingly and talk to your health professional regarding any changes in diet of course.
Are your products Kosher?
Our products are not certified Kosher.
Why are Sweet Freedom products not organic?
We cannot guarantee to be able to obtain all ingredients that are ‘certified’ organic and so although we do not state our products are organic we are uncompromisingly pedantic with our sourcing.
How many WeightWatchers SmartPoints are your products?
Choc Shot = 1 per tsp, Choc Pot = 1 per tsp and Fruit Syrup = 1 per tsp.
How many Slimming World Syns are your products?
Slimming World members can search for the Syn values of all our products on the LifelineOnline website or by using the Slimming World App.
Can I bake with your products?
Do any of your products contain palm oil?
No, we do not use palm oil in ANY of our products.
Is your cocoa Fairtrade?
Yes.
Is your rapeseed oil GM and why do you use it?
Our rapeseed oil is GMO free (all our products and ingredients are).
We chose to use a little drop of rapeseed oil in some of our chocolate products for several reasons.
Rapeseed oil is low in saturated fats and higher in good fats like monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. It has a more neutral flavour than olive oil so it won't interfere with the delicious flavour profile of our Choc Shots and Choc Pot plus it is a stable, less volatile oil so it won’t burn or break down into other potentially harmful compounds when heated.
Much of the negativity around rapeseed oil comes from the GMO nature of American canola oil. Our rapeseed oil is GMO free.
How much Choc Shot would I use for a mug of hot chocolate?
We suggest 3-4 tsp per 200ml milk for a luxurious tasty hot chocolate treat, or to your personal preference.
Is there caffeine in your Choc Shots?
Cocoa does naturally contain a little caffeine, and there is roughly 0.03mg of caffeine in 100g of Choc Shot. If you make a hot chocolate with 3 tsps of Choc Shot (15g) that's 0.0045mg of caffeine. To put that into context, a single shot of espresso (25-30ml) from a high street coffee chain contains between 33mg and 180mg!
How do I store my Choc Shots?
Top down, in a cool dry place, not need to refrigerate, and use within 8 weeks of opening.
How do I store my Choc Pot chocolate spreads?
Once opened keep in the fridge and use within 6 weeks.
Does your Choc Pot separate?
We make Choc Pot Caramel slightly differently to Choc Pot to get that lovely extra creaminess so a little bit of natural syrupy separation can occasionally occur. If you do find this, just give it a stir!
How does Choc Shot compare to solid chocolate?
Choc Shot is 95% fat free, half the calories of solid chocolate and 86% less fat.
How do your Choc Pot chocolate spreads compare to Nutella?
Our Choc Pots have a LOT less fat and calories than Nutella and other chocolate spreads, they are also vegan, contain NO palm oil and NO refined sugar.
You can find the exact comparison on the side of each jar.
How are your Syrups different from other sugar alternatives?
Our multi award winning Syrups range has lots of customers who have switched from stevia mainly due to the taste. Stevia has a bitter aftertaste whereas our natural sweeteners don't!
The crystalline fructose products you can buy are actually 100% processed fructose made from sugar beet and not fruit. Agave has up to 90% fructose, even higher than HFCS (high fructose corn syrup).
There is no way to be 'sugar free' without resorting to artificial sweeteners which have many negative health implications.
I want to replace sugar, which shall I choose?
If you're looking for a neutral sugar replacer choose our Light Syrup, and in baking our Fruit Syrup is glorious.
I'm vegan and can't use honey, help!
You could say we created our Vegan Honeee just for you... grab a bottle and squeeze away!
Fruit Syrup is also a lovely lightly fruity honey alternative and has won multiple Great Taste Awards... it's good stuff, and great for baking too.
Is Fruit Syrup 100% natural?
Yes, Fruit Syrup natural sweetener is made from 100% fruit with nothing added and is produced using no chemicals or enzymes.
Did you know this was Sweet Freedom's first ever product, has won numerous Great Taste Awards and is still going strong!
Why do your Syrups have sugars listed on the label?
We do not add any sugar to our products. They only contain the sugars that are naturally occurring in the three fruits we use to sweeten; apples, carob (and grape in our Fruit Syrup). The only products that are ‘sugar free’ and contain no calories are chemically derived artificial sweeteners which have many negative health implications, including killing the vital good bacteria in your gut. They have also been shown to increase appetite. Our syrups have a low GI (glycaemic index) and therefore less of an effect on blood sugar levels than refined sugar. Our many customers with diabetes who use our products successfully are our best advocates, you can read many reviews on our website.
How much fructose is in your Syrups?
Our Syrups only contain 16% fructose. To put that into context standard table sugar is 50% fructose, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is 50% upwards, even honey is around 60% fructose and agave up to 90% fructose! Fructose is metabolised in the liver and when over consumed can lead to all sorts of health issues – including insulin resistance, obesity and liver disorders.
Do your Syrups crystallise like honey?
This can happen due to the natural fruit sugars in the product but it will not affect the product’s quality or taste.
What is the equivalent measure of sugar e.g. if a recipe says 100g sugar how much Syrup should I use?
We usually suggest 25% less of our Syrups, e.g. 100g sugar = 75g Syrup.
How do I store my Syrups?
Top down in a cool dry place, no need to refridgerate.
What's the difference between the Syrups and the Barista Syrups?
Our multi award winning original Syrups range is thicker and squeezy and can be used for almost anything! Squeeze them onto porridge, pancakes, waffles, ice cream, stir into yoghurt, hot drinks and bake with... lot of delicious natural flavours and endless possibilities!
Our Barista Syrups are runner and specifically created to stir beautifully into your hot and cold drinks... and the Hazelnut Barista already has a Great Taste award...
What is the cocoa juice in your drinks?!
It comes from the cocoa pulp which has previously been discarded. The lightly fruity juice is pressed from the pulp, and the farmers get paid for this extra part of their harvest... it's all good!
What does cocoa juice taste like, is it chocolatey?
It's got a lovely lightly fruity flavour, not chocolatey at all!
How do I store my FIZZ?
Keep it in a cool dry place, and then pop it in the fridge to chill before drinking.

Do the FIZZ drinks make good mixers?
Yes, you can use them as mixers with your favourite tipples… mojito anyone?!
