International Women’s Day is about bold ideas, brave beginnings and women who refuse to accept “the way things have always been.” And at Sweet Freedom, that spirit isn’t just something we celebrate... it’s how we started.
In 2012, Sweet Freedom was founded by two women with a simple but powerful mission: to make the world a little sweeter without the sugar crash.
This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating female-founded innovation, food freedom, and the everyday empowerment that comes from healthier choices.
a women-built brand with a purpose
Sweet Freedom began with a breakthrough idea: what if sweetness didn’t have to come with compromise?
Instead of refined sugar or artificial sweeteners, our founders created an award-winning fruit-based syrup, a game-changing natural sweetener made from fruit.
From that one idea grew a full range of naturally sweetened syrups, spreads and drinks all designed to:
- Deliver delicious taste
- Avoid blood sugar spikes
- Make healthier indulgence accessible
Today, Sweet Freedom products are stocked across major UK supermarkets and have earned 22 Great Taste Awards (and counting) proof that doing things differently works.
And behind it all? Female entrepreneurship driven by purpose.
redefining what “sweet” means
For generations, sweetness has been tied to guilt… calories, crashes and compromise.
Sweet Freedom helped shift that narrative. Our products are:
- Made from 100% natural ingredients
- Free from artificial additives
- Plant-based and vegan
- Palm oil free (protecting wildlife and habitats)
Even our original Fruit Syrup is made using just apples, grapes and carob, with no chemicals used in production.
This isn’t just innovation.
It’s empowerment through better choices.
Because food freedom is part of personal freedom.
women creating change - beyond the kitchen
Sweet Freedom isn’t only about what’s inside the bottle.
As a proudly independent, certified B Corp business, the brand was built to balance profit with purpose creating products that are kinder to both people and the planet.
That includes:
- Supporting environmental initiatives
- Donating 10% of profits from CHOC POT to The Orangutan Project
- Removing palm oil from production to protect endangered wildlife
It’s proof that female-led businesses are often driven by long-term impact — not just short-term results.
the power of choice
International Women’s Day reminds us that progress isn’t always loud.
Sometimes it looks like:
- A better breakfast
- A more balanced lifestyle
- A business that challenges outdated norms
Sweet Freedom was built on the belief that healthier choices should feel joyful, not restrictive.
Because when women innovate, they don’t just create products. They create possibilities.
a sweeter future
From one Fruit Syrup in 2012 to a full range of guilt-free indulgences today, Sweet Freedom continues to prove that:
- Women-led businesses drive meaningful change
- Natural innovation can reshape industries
- And sweetness can exist without sacrifice
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the founders, the team, and the community choosing a better way.
Here’s to freedom.
Here’s to flavour.
Here’s to women who change the recipe.
Happy International Women’s Day from Sweet Freedom 💛
