Q: Do Sweet Freedom products contain any allergens?
A: Please see the individual product pages for full allergen information.
None of our Choc Pot or Choc Shot ingredients contain any of the 14 major food allergens (cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts, celery (including celeriac), mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide/sulphites, lupin or molluscs), but the factory where they are made very occasionally handles some of these allergens. The factory uses strict protocols for allergen segregation and line cleaning as set out within BRC guidelines (annually audited). All our ingredient suppliers are BRC or equivalent certified and supply these ingredients to us as free from all 14 major food allergens. Over and above these measures we regularly test product batches for allergens, and to reassure you no traces of allergens have ever been found in any of our products.
Our Fruit Syrup and other (non chocolate) Syrups are made in a SALSA accredited factory which does not handle any of the 14 major food allergens.
Despite all of the above measures, and although we can legally make free from claims on our packaging, we do not believe that any food company can 100% guarantee their products to be completely allergen free due to the possibility of human error. Because of this we have recently revised our labels and are removing allergen free claims from our products moving forward voluntarily.
We take our customers’ health extremely seriously and will continue doing our utmost to behave responsibly re allergens.
Q: Please could you tell me what is the equivalent measure of sugar e.g. if a recipe says 100g of sugar how much Fruit Syrup should I use?
A: We usually suggest 25% less Fruit Syrup, e.g. 100g sugar = 75g Fruit Syrup.
Q: Can I bake with your products?
A: Yes, click here for inspiration and recipes.
Q: Do any of your products contain palm oil?
A: No, we do not use palm oil in ANY of our products.
Q: How is Fruit Syrup different from other sugar alternatives on the market?
A: Fruit Syrup is a Great Taste Award winning product and we have lots of customers who have switched from stevia mainly due to the taste. Stevia has a bitter aftertaste whereas Fruit Syrup tastes just like sugar (if not better!) The crystalline fructose products you can buy such as Fruisana or Fruit Sugar are actually 100% processed fructose made from sugar beet and not fruit. There is no way to be 'sugar free' without resorting to artificial sweeteners which have many negative health implications.
Q: Are your products a good choice for diabetics?
A: All our products are sweetened only with fruit and contain only the naturally occurring sugars in the fruits used; apples, carob and (in our Fruit Syrup) grapes. The combination of these means they have less of an effect on blood sugar levels than table sugar. We have many customers with diabetes who use our products successfully – see reviews. Deborah's (one of the founders) husband has diabetes. We do advise that you consume sparingly and talk to your health professional regarding any changes in diet of course.
Q: Why do your products have sugars listed on the label?
A: We do not add any sugar to our products. They only contain the sugars that are naturally occurring in the three fruits we use to sweeten; apples, carob (and grape in our Fruit Syrup). The only products that are ‘sugar free’ and contain no calories are chemically derived artificial sweeteners which have many negative health implications, including killing the vital good bacteria in your gut. They have also been shown to increase appetite. Our syrups have a low GI (glycaemic index) and therefore less of an effect on blood sugar levels than refined sugar. Our many customers with diabetes who use our products successfully are our best advocates, you can read many reviews on our website.
Q: Is Fruit Syrup 100% natural?
A: Yes, Fruit Syrup is made from 100% fruit with nothing added and is produced using no chemicals or enzymes.
Q: Is your rapeseed oil GM?
A: Our rapeseed oil is GMO free (all our products and ingredients are).
Q: Are your products Kosher?
A: Our products are not certified Kosher.

Q: Are all Sweet Freedom products vegan?
A: Yes, all our products are registered with the Vegan Society.
Q: Why are Sweet Freedom products not organic?
A: We cannot guarantee to be able to obtain all ingredients that are ‘certified’ organic and so although we do not state our products are organic we are extremely pedantic with our sourcing.
