World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5th with the aim to bring people from all walks of life together to address pressing environmental challenges. Established by the United Nations, this global event serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet.

It’s a day that holds immense significance as it serves as a platform to raise awareness and mobilize action on critical environmental issues. It reminds us that the health of our planet is intricately linked to our well-being and future. It is a day to reflect on the impact of human activities and to explore sustainable solutions that can help mitigate environmental degradation.

The idea is not limited to a single event but rather an opportunity for people worldwide to participate and make a difference. Communities organize tree planting initiatives, gardens, litter picking, and educational programs to foster environmental consciousness. Governments and organizations announce policies and initiatives to tackle environmental issues, ensuring the sustainability of our ecosystems and natural resources.

World Environment Day highlights the power of individual actions in shaping a sustainable future. It encourages each of us to look at our daily choices and habits and seek ways to reduce our ecological footprint.

By working together, we can create a world where nature thrives, ecosystems flourish, and future generations can enjoy the beauty and abundance of our precious Earth. Remember, the time for change is now, and every action, no matter how small, makes a difference.

This World Environment Day, 5th June 2023, we are donating 10% of all profits from our online shop at sweetfreedom.co.uk to The Orangutan Project, so hop on over here and help us donate as much as we can to support these gentle creatures and their critical rainforest homes 😍

UPDATE: You lovely peeps stepped up on World Environment Day on 5th June and with the percentage of takings donated on the day from our online shop we've been able to adopt another gorgeous orangutan at The Orangutan Project 🙌

It had to be Siti, who is our adoptee Sudin's BFF ️🧡

They were rescued together by the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Lampung Province, Sumatra in May 2021. At only 18 months old these little sweethearts should still be with their mums. They're now in the caring hands of The Orangutan Project at their Sumatran orangutan release site in the Bukit Tigapuluh Ecosystem... and are loving Jungle School!

Swing over to The Orangutan Project to learn more, and if you can join us in supporting them or spreading the word about their work... thank you 🙏
